- 01The night Bay 3 went darkTodayToday
At −21 °C a closed tomato house can freeze within hours, and the thing that fails is often the climate computer itself, not the thermometer. The dialler watches air temperature and power. It does not watch the controller's heartbeat, the boiler, or whether the generator will start. Nobody finds out until the house is already cold.
- 02Lights-off in Flower room 2TodayToday
When the lights drop in a flower room the humidity climbs until the plants stop transpiring. Late in flower that is a smaller yield at best and a failed mandatory test at worst, and you cannot spray your way out of it. The spike happens at lights-off, every day, while nobody is in the room.
- 03Drought week: the pump against the permitTodayToday
Watering over 50,000 litres a day in Ontario needs a Permit to Take Water that can cost $10,000 to $50,000 in impact assessment to get, sets your maximum rate and daily volume, and wants a daily log reported every March 31. In a Level 2 summer the conservation authority asks for a 20 per cent cut. Most growers still time irrigation with a shovel.
- 04Fourteen days to the auditor, two years to the border20272027
Audit prep is mostly hunting for paper, whether the scheme is CanadaGAP Version 11 or PrimusGFS, and the auditor can charge up to $115 an hour. From July 20, 2028 any Canadian shipper of cucumbers, peppers or tomatoes to the US must hand FDA sortable traceability data within 24 hours. The records exist. They are just everywhere.
