- 01The 8:15 gapTodayToday
Housekeeping is already short because permits end on fixed dates, so there is no slack when one attendant does not clock in at 08:15. Fourteen rooms have nobody assigned, and twelve guests have asked to check in early. Today the desk finds out at check-in, from a guest with a suitcase, and the owner ends up stripping beds.
- 02The hot tub and the empty drumTodayToday
The hot tub opens at nine on a wedding Saturday, and the chlorine drum ran dry an hour ago. The pre-opening test will find the low reading but not the reason, and the spa stays shut while someone works it out. Meanwhile Reg. 565 wants a signed test before opening and every two to four hours after, and a skipped one shows on the health unit's published inspection.
- 03The vacant room on the first hard frostTodayToday
Nobody opens a vacant room on a weekend. On the first hard frost of the fall the PTAC in 214 stops heating at 03:30, and the room starts falling toward the point where pipes burst. The hot-water return slips under the Legionella line. Then freezing rain brings the lines down, as ice did across Muskoka in March 2025, and the generator and the sump sit unwatched between walk-throughs.

Revenue is up and the bank balance is not. About half of Canadian bookings come through OTAs at 15 to 30 per cent commission, and they cancel about twice as often as direct ones. Booking.com invoices monthly, Expedia pays net by virtual card, and the owner reads the P&L three weeks after the money left. The residences' rent roll is a third spreadsheet.
